2018 Horse Of The Year

February 5, 2018

We congratulate Kris Blacklock’s Blue Ocean Boon for winning the 2018 Horse Of The Year from the Stars For Life Program

Although Adult Amateur Kris Blacklock always adored horses, it wasn’t until she turned 45 that she purchased and started riding her first horse, a 10 yr old Morgan co-owned with her daughter.

Twelve years later, Boon Ocean Blue, a 4 month old Blue Roan Quarter Horse filly chose Kris by leaving the herd and introducing herself. Kris and Dale acquired Ocean when she was 15 months. However, never having started a youngster, they started their journey by focusing on lots of groundwork, auditing colt starting clinics and using progressive dressage training to develop confidence, balance and athleticism.

In 2017, Kris and Ocean choreographed and rode in a dressage and eventing discipline demos. plus participated in ground pole sessions during the 2017 Midwest Horse Fair, competed in North American Western Dressage virtual shows (NAWD Six Feet on the Ground, Trail, Traditional, Western and Freestyle Dressage) and competed in live Working Equitation (Dressage and Ease of Handling) ‘B’ rated shows in IL
and NE.

Kris values and appreciates all that North American Western Dressage offers and considers NAWD a progressive equestrian organization that brings the versatility of dressage 24/7 to equestrians of all ages, all equine breeds and all levels of handlers/riders.
